Answer
Excel is excellent for calculations, reports and manageable lists. It becomes a problem when one file has to serve as database, task manager, approval process and log all at once. Warning signs include several versions of the same file, locked spreadsheets, unclear responsibilities, email attachments copied by hand, or rules that only experienced staff know. What is usually missing then is not “more Excel” but a shared case with a status, clear responsibility and traceable decisions.
A business application therefore does not have to replace every spreadsheet. Reports or exports can still be done in Excel. It takes over the part where several people need to work reliably from the same information: Who is responsible? What is missing? Which decision was made? What may happen next? The benefit comes not from a more modern screen but from less searching, fewer queries and less duplicate maintenance.
