WithinCells

The password is on one device. You need it on another.

Transfer passwords, API keys, and other short confidential text to one selected device—without sending it to yourself through email, chat, or a cloud clipboard.

Android Community 0.1.7 is public. Desktop 0.1.5 is a preview.

WithinCells connects two separated devices

A clear path from device to device

Transfer and input are two separate steps

1

Pair the devices

Pair both devices once with QR codes and compare the security codes on both screens.

2

Transfer the text

Select the target. Use a QR code or encrypted Bluetooth between paired WithinCells devices.

3

Enter it once

Enter the received text at the target. On Android, the one-time WithinCells keyboard is the preferred path.

Typical situations

Built for the gap between two devices

  • Move an API key from a development computer to a test device.
  • Enter one password on a server without network access.
  • Use a recovery code on a second device without placing the whole password vault there.

Complements your password manager

WithinCells does not store a password collection. It handles the deliberate last step to another device.

It is not a general file-transfer tool and cannot make a compromised target trustworthy.

No shared network required

Each transfer belongs to one selected target

No account or cloud

A QR code contains the complete encrypted transfer. No relay service is required.

Selected recipient

Only the paired target has the private key needed to open it. The sender signs the transfer.

One use in WithinCells

After output, the receiving device locks the transfer. The original password itself remains valid.

Current maturity

Which version is intended for which use?

Product Version Status
Community for Android 0.1.7 Public on Google Play
Community for Windows and Linux 0.1.5 Public preview; evaluate with test data first
Team 0.2.x 0.2.1 Restricted internal Early Access; not a production release

Team adds local organizations, signed device policy, encrypted backups, and metadata-only audit exports. These features are not publicly released for production use.

Scan QR codes directly

Do not place pairing or transfer QR codes in screenshots, photos, or chats. Clipboard output is marked as a fallback. Bluetooth keyboard output is a separate path and is not the same end-to-end transfer.
