Not with the simplest sample item, but with a representatively difficult product. It should include variants, technical attributes, images or documents, at least one sales channel and a real exception. This example makes sources, responsibilities, approvals and required outputs visible.
After that, a small product group can be taken completely through the new process. What is measured is not only whether records were imported, but whether staff find missing details, can trace approvals and whether published information is correct. Only when this path works is the catalogue scaled up. Modelling errors are thus spotted early, before tens of thousands of products have to be reworked at great effort.
