Answer
Interfaces need their own technical identities, limited rights, encrypted transfer and secure handling of credentials. Incoming data is not trusted blindly, even if it comes from a known partner. Validation, size and rate limits and proper authorisation checks are part of basic protection. With webhooks, the origin should also be verified and replay attacks prevented.
For operation, versions and responsibilities are just as important. API changes, expiring certificates or new mandatory fields must be detected before the production data flow comes to a standstill. Automated contract tests and a documented test procedure help with updates. Which security and availability measures are actually agreed depends on the risk of the process. The specific architecture and operating agreement is binding.
