Answer
An offline mode is possible, but it has to be planned for each work step. The technician can, for example, load job data in advance, record times, materials, photos and checklists locally and transfer them later. The app clearly shows which data exists only locally, which transfer is pending and which has been confirmed by the server.
Conflicts have to be resolved in business terms: what happens if the job was changed at head office while the device was offline? May an approval that has already been completed be overwritten? How large may photos and attachments be? Without such rules, “offline-capable” is just a marketing term. For areas of operation with regularly weak networks, the offline workflow belongs in the acceptance tests, including flight mode, app restarts and delayed synchronisation.
