How do backups work and how often is a recovery tested?

Answer

A backup is only reliable if its scope, retention, encryption and recovery path are known. The database, uploaded files, configuration and required keys may need different backups. A green backup job does not yet prove that a complete application can be restored within an acceptable time.

For hosted projects, the contractually agreed procedures apply; the public data processing page sets out a general framework that does not replace an individual commitment. Recovery tests should be planned and documented on a risk basis. Where appropriate, they check not just a single file but a complete service with its dependencies. The customer and schukai must also know which data loss window and which restart time the contract actually covers.
