Configure price comparison and RRP
Maintain comparison-price settings under Commerce > Policies & taxes > Price comparison and RRP. The product price remains the selling price, so do not create a second product price to act as a crossed-out reference.
What to maintain
- Policy release: Select the country pack for Germany, Austria, or Switzerland, add the internal legal approval reference, and activate the reviewed version.
- Market binding: Bind the policy release to a sales channel. The country must match the sales-channel country. The validity window lets you schedule a rollover or retire a binding.
- Sale campaign: Define the period, variant, price list, exact selected product price, and evidence reference. The campaign is bound to the price revision that exists at that time; a later edit to the product price is not adopted automatically. For successive reductions, use the same series ID and contiguous reduction steps. The observed gross price must fall at every step; otherwise the sequence is not continued.
- RRP evidence: Record the recommended retail price for the same product price, including currency, source, and validity. RRP evidence is separate from a sale campaign.
Continue maintaining product prices in PIM. Once a market binding is active, Workspace records the actually selected anonymous B2C gross price as immutable history. The observation uses the same price logic, quantity unit, tax, and charges as the public price. Personalized, customer-group, and agreement prices are excluded. Existing prices are not reconstructed retrospectively.
An immediate activation takes effect no earlier than the activation itself. A start date in the past therefore cannot create retrospective price history. Future boundaries are scheduled durably and retain their effective time even if processing is delayed.
When a comparison price is shown
Workspace displays a comparison price only when an active country policy and complete history for the exact product price are available. Missing facts, a buyer-country mismatch, or a stale decision hides the comparison. Verified B2B buyers and unverified companies on the quote path do not receive comparison prices.
The storefront, standard cart, and HTML/PDF documents use only the server-approved decision. Comparison prices do not change the payable amount, tax, or accounting.
> Have country policies and approval references reviewed before activation. Workspace provides technical evaluation and does not replace legal advice.
Typical workflow
- Activate a reviewed policy release.
- Bind the sales channel and country, then wait until the required price history is complete.
- Create and activate the sale campaign with its evidence reference.
- Optionally add valid RRP evidence.
- Check the product page, cart, and document preview in the B2C storefront.
An active sale campaign still counts as a sale internally if the history is not yet sufficient for public comparison-price display. This prevents unintended stacking by promotions configured to exclude sale items.
